The first American Pope is Argentine Jesuit Jorge Mario Bergoglio, 76, archbishop of Buenos Aires. He is a prominent figure of the whole continent and a simple and well-loved pastor in his diocese, who has visited widely and even, even moving in means of public transportation, in the fifteen years of episcopal ministry.

In the Argentine capital was born on December 17, 1936, the son of Piedmontese emigrants: his father, Mario, was an accountant, railroad employee, while his mother, Regina Sivori, took care of the house and the education of the five children.
